Kaila Yu

Kaila Yu (Chinese: 于麗萍, pinyin: Yú Lìpíng,born on May 16, 1984 in Taipei, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese American model and pop singer.

Born Li Ting Yu in Taipei, Taiwan, she and her family moved to California when she was three years old. She gained popularity through modeling in import car shows. Kaila has been featured in several magazines including Import Tuner, Playboy, and FHM. She began college at UC San Diego and later transferred to UCLA in order to live in Los Angeles to pursue modeling and singing. She released her first album in 2003.

JIZO: Hi Kaila! How you doing? It is truly an honor for us to interview one of the most gorgeous and talented Asian American female out there. What have you have been up to lately?

Kaila Yu: Just been running around like crazy, working on my album to be released before summertime so that’s my main focus right now. Recently performed at a concert for MTV Asia, got back from a tour of Germany and was featured in The Rolling Stone magazine so pretty excited overall!

JIZO: Do you still call Los Angeles your home?

Kaila Yu: Definitely, always have, always will.

JIZO: You gained quite a bit of popularity as one of the first and most known Import Model. What memories do you have from those days? (Good or bad)

Kaila Yu: It was a crazy time being so young and getting to travel all across the country and even internationally and meeting so many people. It was definitely an exciting time

JIZO: What motivated you to pursue a singing career?

Kaila Yu: It’s what I always wanted to do

JIZO: Who have been your main musical influences?

Kaila Yu: Definitely Madonna

JIZO: How would you describe your music to someone that's never heard
it before?

Kaila Yu: The current stuff that’s out is club music, similar to the style of the
Pussycat Dolls and Nelly Furtado

JIZO: Your new album is scheduled to be released sometimes in April.
How would you compare this one to the others?

Kaila Yu: It’s going to have more of a rock influence I think, we are still
writing and recording so everything could change by the time we are done with it!

JIZO: You have appeared in numerous magazines such as Playboy, FHM ..
made several TV show appearances, been in several movies and music videos. I mean what's next for Kaila?

Kaila Yu: Definitely the main focus is the album and touring! Also shot a couple
movies, so look for there, and also I host my own show "Drift Scene" on octane TV

JIZO: By the way, how did you hook up with Playboy magazine?

Kaila Yu: I really wanted to shoot with Playboy so I just submitted my photos to
Kim Mizuno, a well known photographer who worked with my favorite model at the time, Sung Hi Lee, and he had me come in to shoot.

JIZO: Talking about your modeling, acting and singing career? Which one has the most significance to you?

Kaila Yu: By far singing, that is my passion right now. After I am done with
singing I will pursue acting fully.

JIZO: Do you think you have a larger fan base in the North America, Europe or Asia?

Kaila Yu: Definitely the USA is my biggest fan base.

JIZO: What would you consider as the happiest day of your life?

Kaila Yu: Performing at the MTV Asia concert! We had an amazing time.

JIZO: Is there anything you would like everyone to know about Kaila?

Kaila Yu: I want to meet each and every single one of my fans!
