conducted by
 JiZO Jewles

JIZO: Jessi! How ya doing girl? What you been up to lately?

Jessi Malay: I'm doing really really well right now! I've been rehearsing my BUTT off getting ready for my first show next Wednesday night @ club Element in Hollywood..You gonna come out and see me??

JIZO:  Can you tell us a little more about yourself? Where did you grow  up? Who in your family is Filipino if I may ask?

Jessi Malay:  I'm actually a native Angelino...born and raised in Los Angeles mainly in the Los Feliz/Glendale area..My mom is the one that is Filipina.

JIZO:  What do you currently call home?

Jessi Malay: I'm still living in Los Angeles... I love it here!

JIZO:  How did you come up with the stage name of "Jessi Malay"?

Jessi Malay:  Malay is actually a family name from my mom's side and I decided I wanted to go by Jessi because there are soooo many Jessica's out there already!

JIZO:  When did you realize that you were able to sing?

Jessi Malay:  I always knew I loved to sing but didn't realize I was actually good at it until I was 9 and got picked to sing as lead in a kid's performing group I was in called Kid Power when we toured Disneyworld, the Big Red Boat, and the Bahamas!

JIZO:  Who influenced you musically?

Jessi Malay:  When I was really young I listened to all the original pop stars...Donna Summers, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Michael and Janet Jackson, because that's the type of music my mom loved. However...growing up in LA at a time when west coast hip hop was at its prime influenced me a lot too...I LOVED Tupac and Dr. Dre! still do...and a big turning point for me musically was when I saw the "Are you That Somebody" video with Timbaland and Aaliyah because it was exactly where my 2 favorite kinds of music came together...Hip hop beats with pop vocals...That's kind of where I see myself fitting in musically.

JIZO:  Do you write your own lyrics for your songs?

Jessi Malay:  I have co-written a lot of my album... I think about half of it is
so-written by me.

JIZO:  Name your top five all time favorite records:

Jessi Malay:  Records? That's tough...The Janet Jackson "Janet" album with "if" and "That's the way Love Goes," Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001, D'Angelo's "Voodoo," Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," Damian Marley's "Welcome to Jamrock," and Robin Thicke's "The Evolution of Robin Thicke"...oops I think that's 6 but that was hard enough to narrow down...

JIZO:  What would you class as your biggest musical achievement?

Jessi Malay:  I can't classify any one thing as my greatest musical achievement but I am very proud of how much influence and input I've had on my first solo album
that I'm wrapping up right now...From production, to writing, to A&R'ing
I've had a major hand in it all!

JIZO:  Are you possibly going to start touring around the U.S?

Jessi Malay: I am! This summer I'm getting goin! So come check me out!

JIZO:  How excited are you about the release of your new album?

Jessi Malay:  Excited is such an understatement!!! This album is seriously like my baby so it's like a child is being born! No but seriously...I'm ecstatic! I just can't wait to get out there and perform the album now!

JIZO:  What are your plans for the future?

Jessi Malay:  I plan to continue to have an extremely successful music career, touring and traveling the world sharing my music...Then dabble in some acting, and when the time is right have a little family because at the end of the day that's all that is truly important in life.

JIZO: Do you have any specific message for your fans?

Jessi Malay:  Get out and see me PERFORM!!!! That's when you'll really get what I'm all about...  THANX 4 the interview!!!
<3much love,
Jessi
