THE INTERVIEW::
conducted
by
JiZO Jewles

JIZO: What's up
E-MAN! Thanks for doing this interview with us
buddy. Can you quickly introduce yourself to our
readers?
EMAN: What up y'all! I'm DJ E-man from
Power 106 FM Los Angeles.
I do a lot of
things at the station: I have two mix shows
during Big Boy's Neighborhood morning show:
630am "Up with us" mix and 830am "Mickey-Fickey"
Mix. I'm also have a mix feature and new music
feature on a syndicated radio show: Big Boy's
hip-hop spot, that airs nationally. I also am
the Asst. Program Director and Music
Director at Power 106. I also currently
oversee the music department on our new station:
Movin' 93.9. Besides the DJing on radio, I DJ
many different clubs worldwide and I'm the
performance DJ for artists Lil' Rob and Baby
Bash. So as you can see, I keep myself busy :)
JIZO: How long have you been in the game?
What inspired you to become a DJ?
EMAN: I've been in the game for 21 years
now. My cousin Ollie actually got me
into the game of DJing...

JIZO: You have become quite of a big name
is southern California throughout
the years and inspired many to follow your
footsteps? How do you feel
about this?
EMAN: I'm very blessed to be doing what
I'm doing now. I'm just like any other
ordinary person out there doing a job and
enjoying it. Always gotta stay humble and
appreciate what you have now. I'm just happy
that with what I do, I can help people take
themselves to the next level.
JIZO: Were you the first Asian American
DJ to ever join Los Angeles Power
106?
EMAN: I can say I was the first
Asian-American DJ "from our scene" to get to
Power. DJ Enrie is part Filipino. He was there
before I got there.

JIZO: What other DJ or DJ's do you admire
the most?
EMAN: Creativity and Passion. I call that
"making music out of the music".
Only so many DJs can do that out there. I've
been honored to grow up with my other DJ friends
and watch them grow as well. Not only are they
my friends, but I'm also a fan of their work. DJ
Melo-D is definitely one of the dopest and most
creative DJs I know. DJ Ever is one that I feel
is the next star DJ out of the west.
JIZO: How would you describe the music
you play?
EMAN: As a DJ, it's about playing for
the crowd and rockin' the party. I'm a
party DJ...I play "party music" to "rock the
party" my way. If the party
people are happy...then I'm happy!
JIZO: How long have you hosted your own
radio show?
EMAN: Been at Power 106 for 12 years now
doing various mix shows and features.
JIZO: By the way Eman, I always wondered
how you landed a role in Asian
American movie "The Debut"?
EMAN: The director of the movie wanted to
reflect the Filipino lifestyle in
the US. He also happens to live in LA and
listens to me on air. He invited me to be a part
of the movie playing myself, which, to this day,
I'm very grateful for!

JIZO: You have had the chance to DJ for
quite a number of celebrities and/or
other high caliber events? What is your most
memorable moment so far?
EMAN: I've been blessed to DJ for many
different artists on-stage or party:
Mariah Carey, Shaquillie O'Neal, Xzibit, Tamia,
etc. My most memorable
moment so far has to be being the exclusive DJ
for a huge Tsunami relief
concert in Malaysia back in March 2005. I got a
chance to be part of
history raising funds for the people of
Malaysia, Indonesia, and other
parts of Asia to rebuild their lives. What was
cool was that many celebs
across the world came to support. The Black Eyed
Peas, Carmen Elektra,
Jody Watley, and Clay Aiken were all on my
flights and I got a chance to
hang with all of them.
JIZO: What would you like to achieve
next?
EMAN: I haven't touched Australia or
South America yet as a DJ. That's my
goal...to DJ out there...also, to retire at a
early age...lol
JIZO: So how is the married life so far?
How do you manage to balance your
personal life and career?
EMAN: Family life has been the best! I
have an incredible wife who understands
why I'm out there DJing and working. I'm blessed
to have two beautiful kids and another one
on the way. Balancing time with them is tough
because what I do (radio/DJ) is a 24-7 job. But
it's because of them I strive to work hard and
make sure they're taking care of...they're my #1
priority...
JIZO: Thanks Eman and good luck to ya!
EMAN: Good lookin' out Jizo
Entertainment!
