ANDREW THE MAGICIAN

THE INTERVIEW::
conducted by
 JiZO Jewles

JIZO: Wassap Andrew! Can you please tell us about yourself? Where did you grow up and what you are doing these days?

ANDREW: How's it going? I'm from San Francisco, born and raised, and there's tons of stuff going on right now, projects like you wouldn't believe!

JIZO: What intrigued you about magic at the beginning of your career?

ANDREW:  I saw another asian magician, Jade, at Chinatown when I was seven and she picked me as a volunteer. I ended up with her autograph, and the rest is history.

JIZO: Who are your magic heroes and why?

ANDREW:
My heroes in magic inspire me constantly, because they're where I want to be. One of the biggest is Cyril Takayama, he's a superstar in Japan and he's blowing up here in the U.S.

JIZO: Where do you look for inspiration for your magic?

ANDREW:
Again, my heroes, but also everyday life. I look at problems we encounter and see if I can take a mundane solution and create magic from it.

JIZO: Where do you want to take magic?

ANDREW:
All over the world! One of my dreams is to go touring in Japan-- that's always been a destination for me, but I've done shows all over California and even toured in Vegas.

JIZO: What is your favorite magic trick?

ANDREW:  Oh man.. There's so many I can't name just one! But I'd have to say I love doing my Parasol Act. It's my pride and joy and it's won me awards and taken me places I only dreamt of.

JIZO: Can you please talk about winning "Marin County Magic Competition 2006"?

ANDREW:
I did my Parasol Act in that instance (you can see a video of it at youtube.com/magicbyandrew) and it's actually still a work in progress, but it's all good, because recently on September 21, I became San Francisco's First Place Champion with that act, AsianWeek Magazine covered it, it's pretty awesome.

JIZO
: Do you now consider yourself a professional magician?

ANDREW:
I do, because I can't survive in a 9-5. I just love doing what I do, and I feel blessed to have so much support from friends, fans and family.

JIZO:
When did you become serious about performing magic as a profession?

ANDREW:  Can't say for sure... but it happened slowly, one step at a time!

JIZO: What are you working on these days?

ANDREW:  I actually have several projects that are currently being kept secret... but you can add me on myspace at myspace.com/magicbyandrew to keep up on the details! And if you've got a talent like no other and you're from the Bay Area, drop me a line saying wassup!

JIZO: Do you have any talents besides performing magic tricks?

ANDREW:  Sure do! I have a lotta other stuff outside of magic, drawing, web and graphic design, photography, food, but I also happen to rap! I write all my own lyrics and remixes, and you can check out my music at myspace.com/andrewremixed and musicbyandrew.imeem.com!

JIZO:
Anything else you would like to say?

ANDREW:   I'd like to thank my inspiration Jade, as well as Joe Pon of misdirections.com and most of all, my mom for being so supportive. Oh, and thanks for the opportunity Jizo, and to everyone out there that enjoys my videos and my work: You all rock!
